Hundreds of Alabamians from all walks of life came to the Alabama State House today to urge legislators to reconsider their support for HB 56 and repeal the state’s new anti-immigrant law. They came on Valentine’s Day, led by religious leaders from all denominations, to deliver Valentine cards and a message of love for their home state of Alabama. However, in a disturbing turn of events, some white members of the group were allowed to visit their legislators while Latinos were turned away. Additionally, access to legislators and even the galleries of the House and Senate were severely restricted to the entire group because of new rules – agreed to just this morning – by officials to keep the people from their government.
